Communication Failures
Many couples provide vague or no guidance about their musical preferences and expectations, leaving unclear the wedding's vibe, formality level, and guest demographics. They often don't discuss crucial timeline details or coordinate with their venue and other vendors. Important details like "do not play" lists get overlooked, and they assume the DJ knows their taste without providing specific examples.
Couples sometimes "ghost" suppliers by stopping communication after initial inquiries or even after making provisional bookings—this wastes the DJ's time, prevents them from booking other clients for that date, and can damage the couple's reputation if they later want to rebook or need referrals. Even a simple "we've decided to go in a different direction" message is far better than silence and maintains professional relationships that might prove valuable later.
This kind of courtesy goes both ways in the wedding industry, and DJs often remember couples who communicated respectfully, even if they didn't ultimately book.
